he Croatian Center for the Renewal of Culture was founded in February 2009 with the aim of promoting the dignity of each human person and participating in the public discussion on all topics relevant to modern Croatian society. Nearly 20 years have passed since the establishment of Croatia as a free country, and the ongoing transition from totalitarian rule to democracy has been marked by difficult changes. Furthermore, special mention should be given to the Homeland War which demanded great sacrifices, primarily in human terms, but also material. We are convinced that institutional reforms alone are not sufficient to resolve the challenges confronting Croatia, but that a renewal of culture is much needed as well.

We understand the concept of culture in its widest sense, as something encompassing the main principles according to which people live their everyday lives, which also includes the values they appreciate and consider important. Croatia, as well as the whole of Europe, is going through a crisis of values that cannot be resolved by political means, for the cause is not of a political nature. The problem is primarily a moral crisis which deeply permeates all levels of the society. We have witnessed the deep wounds in the lives of individuals and society at large that totalitarian rule has left behind, and the healing of those human wounds requires an overall renewal of our culture.

All the solutions of the Western world based on a multi-party system, free market, and meeting the criteria for full membership in the European Union cannot provide us a guarantee for a better future in Croatia. Only a deeper renewal of culture, as well as the establishment of a more just society, can bring true progress. In our work we intend to focus on the education of young leaders. Moreover, we intend to promote positive values and well-meaning initiatives in the Croatian public square. We look forward to your cooperation.
